Cameron Sharp - Piper
Cameron was brought up in the village of Plockton in Wester Ross and started playing the bagpipes at the age of 10. The area has a strong piping history and Cameron has been lucky enough to have two of the world’s most accomplished competitive solo pipers as tutors - Niall Stewart and Iain MacFadyen.
Cameron competed very successfully for many years winning the Highlands and Islands Young Piper of the Year in 2014 and 2015 as well as regularly placing in the prize lists of competitions such as the Northern Meeting. Attending The National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music in Plockton for 4 years has given Cameron a very strong grounding in traditional music. In addition, Cameron has had lots of experience of playing at weddings, many of them at the famous Eilean Donan Castle, which is close to his home village.
Aside from solo competitions, Cameron has also competed very successfully with Lochalsh Junior Pipe Band and more recently at the highest level with the The Glasgow Skye Association Pipe Band in Grade One.
Cameron is a multi-instrumentalist, playing whistle, flute and border pipes in addition to the Highland bagpipe.
Piping and music has given Cameron lots of opportunities and he has performed at many festivals at home and around Europe as a solo piper and also as a member of his traditonal music trio – Baile.
Cameron enjoys composing new tunes and teaches regularly with the Fèisean movement
